Why have an entry in the Book?

The main form of memorial is to have an epitaph inscribed by hand in the Book of Remembrance by our calligraphers. Inscriptions can consist of the name of the deceased and as many as 200 letters. There is an option of having an appropriate hand painted illustration added to the inscription.

Entries are usually displayed on the date of death, although it is possible to choose any other date such as a birthday or anniversary.

During office hours, a member of staff can turn the pages to a different date on request. However, at certain times individual pages are updated with new inscriptions. You will always be able to view your inscription a month before or after the anniversary date you have requested, but, to avoid disappointment at other times, it is advisable to check with the office before visiting Bramcote Crematorium.

The Book of Remembrance is intended as a permanent memorial to the deceased. For every day of the year there is a separate page, at the head of which the day and the month are inscribed.

Your inscription will be on display in the Chapel of Remembrance on the date that you request in your application. The date you request can be the date of death, date of birth or wedding or other anniversary.

To allow viewing at all times of the year a touch screen computer in the Book of Remembrance Room provides digital images of the Books. The Book of Remembrance can also be viewed online at https://bramcote.bookofremembrance.uk

The digital / online version of the Book of Remembrance can be further enhanced by adding up to four personal memorial screens which can consist of photographs, biography, a favourite verse or poem. Access to this service is via a swipe-card / PIN card (Personal Identification Number).

Viewing the Book

Access to the Book of Remembrance room is provided 365 days of the year. Please check the Contact page for the hours open.

If you visit on a day other than the anniversary that you have chosen, you will need to ask for a member of staff to assist you. Someone is always available to help you on weekdays.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE TIMES WHEN YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO VIEW YOUR INSCRIPTION: This is because all new inscriptions are added off the premises. If another inscription is being added to the same page as your own, it will not be possible to view your inscription.

YOU WILL ALWAYS BE ABLE TO VIEW YOUR INSCRIPTION A MONTH BEFORE OR AFTER THE ANNIVERSARY DATE YOU HAVE REQUESTED. New inscriptions are not added during the period around the current date. During the rest of the year you are advised to contact the Crematorium Office before visiting to avoid disappointment.
